Strengthening Relationships with Students and Families
Here's what that looks like in practice — in the words of the district leaders and educators who experienced real outcomes.Â
GOAL SETTING
Bridging the Cultural Gap Between Staff and Students
The district began with a simple but powerful question:
How do our educators truly strengthen relationships with our Black students and families?
This was not about compliance. It was about connection, trust, and creating spaces where every student and family feels seen, valued, and supported, and experiences caring relationships, high expectations, and meaningful opportunities to participate and contribute.Â
This goal-led thinking led to implementing a district-wide, actionable approach to resilience and cultural responsiveness.

STRATEGY PLANNING
Listening, Aligning, and Moving Forward Together
EDLINKS® worked alongside the Superintendent, community leaders, and school teams to listen deeply and co-create a path forward.
This phase centered on:
- Honoring lived experiencesÂ
- Inviting and ensuring the active participation of diverse community membersÂ
- Creating space for honest dialogueÂ
- Building shared commitment across leadership and staffÂ
The result was a plan that reflected both the urgency of the work and the care required to do it well.

All school staff were invited into a year-long cohort—an intentional space for reflection, dialogue, and growth. This work was not easy. It asked participants to reflect on their own experiences and assumptions, engage in conversations that required vulnerability and courage, and reconsider how their actions impact students daily.Â

TESTIMONIAL
“At first, I was upset that I had to participate in this project, but after the first couple of meetings, my mind changed. Although this work can be very difficult because of all the emotions it may invoke, it is also very important. We all need to be highly aware of the unconscious biases we may have, especially when we are working with students.”  Â
