The Landscape and Hardscape Relationship in Our Schools

True school safety requires more than locks, cameras, and controlled entrances. This article explores the relationship between the physical security of a school’s “Hardscape” and the caring relationships, trust, belonging, and connectedness that form its “Landscape.” Drawing on current research, the authors explain why resilient school communities must invest intentionally in both.
